| What if I am physically
challenged? We strive to ensure that as many people as possible have access to the river, including many physically-challenged individuals. Call us. We will be happy to talk with you and discuss your specific needs. You will be surprised what our crews can accommodate. If you take daily medications, let us know of any special storage procedures so we can be prepared. I get sea-sick easily. Is this a problem on a river trip? You are extremely unlikely to experience any kind of motion
sickness while aboard our boats. This has not been a problem with any of our
guests. The up-and-down action of the boat while going through rapids is fun
and lasts for just a few minutes at a time. On calmer water the motion you'll
feel is relaxing.I'm 70+ years old. Can I handle this trip? Quite possibly. Many of our seniors surprise us with their abilities. Our guides will be happy to help you if you need a hand. Our full-length trips may be best for you. The hike in/out of Grand Canyon on partial trips must be taken into consideration. Can children go on river trips? Age minimums are 8 years on motorized trips and 12 years on oar-powered. There is no maximum age limit. Do we have contact with the outside world? We carry a ground-to-air radio and can contact aircraft overhead in emergencies only. There is one telephone at Phantom Ranch. Cell phones do not work in Grand Canyon. What do we do in emergencies? If there is a problem on the river, we contact the National Park Service. They send in an evacuation helicopter. If someone at home has an emergency, they can contact us at our office in Page, and we will contact the NPS. The NPS will decide if the circumstances warrant an evacuation. We carry extensive first aid kits on all our trips, and our guides all know CPR and advanced first aid. Are the guides trained? Diamond guides combine their natural people skills with a high degree of experience and on-going training. Trip leaders average 12 years in Grand Canyon, guides six-plus years. Additional training is accomplished by traditional classroom seminars and on river trips.
